Meet Doug

My name is Doug Rathell, I’m a native Marylander looking to SERVE our community to the fullest. Professionally, I am a career Fire Lieutenant / Paramedic, married to a Nurse, with whom we have three amazing children. My passion for serving my community, led me to becoming a firefighter. I have always had an attraction to politics, but after completing the Leadership Anne Arundel Flagship program in 2015, my interest was reignited. This organization’s curriculum allowed me the opportunity to delve into the development and cultivation of Anne Arundel County, as well as the tools needed to improve the quality of life of those living in the community. 

As Delegate, I plan to bridge divides, while facilitating resolutions for the benefits and interest for ALL. With my diverse background, I have the resources and networks necessary to become a successful, proactive leader. My close connection with the community gives me greater insight compared to those who may not be directly involved in this capacity. I have seen, firsthand, the devastating effects of the Opioid Epidemic and provided countless individuals a second chance. I’ve endured the living conditions and struggles of those less fortunate in our community. I don’t sit behind a desk imagining or reading about these issues, I’m out on the streets experiencing them. It’s my job to protect our community, whether it’s fighting fires or providing care to those in need. Now, I want to give back in another way. I’m committed to aiding Anne Arundel County and my fellow citizens. It’s time for a CHANGE. When elected, I intend to bring my hands on experience and practical knowledge to the State House and make the difference our community deserves. 

Fundraising is perhaps the least appealing part of public service, but with your support and donations, it will give me a far greater opportunity to succeed. Being a newcomer and a public servant, I do not have the financial ware with all to do this without you.

I strongly believe we return to our Founding Fathers’ political ideology. It was intended that politicians come from all lines of work, walks of life, and backgrounds to truly represent the people they are serving. Let’s bring politics back to the people. Who better to do so than a person who literally holds lives in his hands. Help me, help you, hold Anne Arundel County’s FUTURE in OUR hands! Thank you for your continued support on this journey.
